PatientKeeper Employees Roll Up Their Sleeves at Cradles to Crayons to Help Nearly 1000 Underprivileged Children Across Massachusetts

On-site effort sorting and packaging clothing and toys complements $5,000 cash contribution and donations of needed goods

WALTHAM, MA – PatientKeeper employees took a break from their “day jobs” on a sunny afternoon in January to help sort and package donated clothes and toys earmarked for underprivileged children across Massachusetts. The project, coordinated through Cradles to Crayons, a charitable organization that provides essentials to homeless and low-income children, was the focus of PatientKeeper’s 2014 Day of Volunteerism.

PatientKeeper’s on-site work at the Cradles to Crayons warehouse in Boston was augmented by a $5,505 cash donation – $3,005 from contributions by individual PatientKeeper employees, and $2,500 from the company. In addition, many PatientKeeper employees donated new or gently used clothing and toys.

Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. Cradles to Crayons collects new and nearly new children’s items through grassroots community drives and corporate donations. Donations are then processed and packaged by volunteers, and are distributed to disadvantaged children across the state through a collaborative network of social service agencies and school partners.

Cradles to Crayons project supervisors said the hands-on work and contributions by the PatientKeeper team directly benefitted nearly 1,000 children.

“This was enormously rewarding work by a lot of committed people,” Mike Southern, PatientKeeper’s vice president of human resources, said. “It was great to see so many of our employees, from student interns through senior executives, eager to roll up their sleeves to make a difference.”

PatientKeeper’s community outreach team selected Cradles to Crayons for the 2014 Volunteerism Day project because the organization’s mission resonated with the company, and the Cradles to Crayons facility could accommodate all PatientKeeper participants. “Cradles to Crayons was amazingly organized,” Southern said. “They efficiently and effectively orchestrated our large group with a crisp, succinct orientation that put us to work in minutes. It was a pleasure working with them.
