PatientKeeper Adds Infusion Billing to its Electronic Charge Capture Software
Co-developed with Partners HealthCare, new electronic workflow replaces complicated paper encounter form with simple data entry screen
WALTHAM, Mass. – Mar. 21, 2013 – PatientKeeper® Inc., the leading provider of healthcare applications for physicians, today announced the availability of infusion billing as part of PatientKeeper Charge Capture™, the company’s electronic charge capture software used by hospitals and physician practices nationwide.
PatientKeeper’s new electronic workflow improves the provider experience for infusion billing by replacing paper encounter forms, which require knowledge of infusion coding and billing rules, with a simple screen. The system automatically applies complex rules to add the appropriate charge codes, quantities, and procedures to ensure accurate charge entry and billing.
PatientKeeper developed the infusion billing capability with Partners HealthCare of Boston, a not-for-profit health care system founded in 1994 by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital and a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Partners will be the first to deploy PatientKeeper’s new infusion billing software.
Partners Healthcare expects this new charge capture functionality to streamline the charging process in their infusion departments, and sees it as a natural extension of the PatientKeeper physician charge capture system that has been used successfully at Partners facilities for years.
PatientKeeper Charge Capture infusion billing ensures that correct codes are added to support accurate and compliant reimbursement. Within the software, rules are configurable to allow for policy changes without requiring a software upgrade, and can also be customized by facility and each provider’s role. For example, an organization can authorize billing for only specific drugs or delivery methods at a certain clinic. System and configurable rules determine how to bill for an infusion session, based on the data entered by the provider. Providers simply enter the services that were delivered, and the system adds the correct charges.
PatientKeeper Charge Capture dramatically reduces lost charges and lag days by eliminating inefficiencies associated with paper-based charge systems. The system allows physicians to record charges on whatever device they prefer, including desktop and laptop computers, smartphones, and tablets.
“PatientKeeper has long been a leader in automating physician charge capture, and our new infusion billing offering adds a complex specialty workflow to our range of capabilities,” said Paul Brient, PatientKeeper’s president and CEO. “We are proud to have collaborated with one of the premier healthcare provider organizations in the world, Partners HealthCare, to develop this important new functionality.”
