Summa Health System Selects PatientKeeper Charge Capture Software

Physician group at Ohio healthcare network seeks to improve revenue cycle management by deploying electronic charge capture solution

WALTHAM, Mass. – June 25, 2012 – PatientKeeper® Inc., the leading provider of physician healthcare information systems, today announced that the multi-specialty physician organization within Summa Health System, one of the largest integrated healthcare delivery networks (IDN) in Ohio, has selected PatientKeeper Charge Capture™ software to improve revenue cycle management and streamline professional fee charge capture for more than 300 physicians.

PatientKeeper Charge Capture software provides an automated billing workflow that easily fits a clinician's work style, and can support ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes. PatientKeeper dramatically reduces lost charges and lag days by eliminating inefficiencies associated with paper-based charge systems.  The software offers flexible access on PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets.

Akron-based Summa Physicians Inc. is transitioning to PatientKeeper from a paper-based charge capture methodology. The PatientKeeper system will integrate patient registration from eight different hospitals, nursing homes and other care settings beyond physicians’ offices. Physicians will use Apple iPhones, iPads and Android devices to enter their charges into PatientKeeper, which will then send the charge information to Summa Health’s billing center.

“We were looking for a way to improve how we capture charges for activity outside of our practices,” said Brian Kundtz, Director of IT at Summa Health. “We have many providers performing procedures and consultations in hospitals, nursing homes and other locations. PatientKeeper provides us an intuitive solution on mobile devices, which many of our providers already use, to capture and pass this data to our billing systems in a much more efficient manner.”

Kundtz said Summa Health System selected PatientKeeper for its mobile access capabilities, including the ability for a provider to utilize the system even if they’re not connected to the internet; rule-based alerts that give immediate feedback to users; and PatientKeeper’s intuitive interface, which simplifies physician adoption and usage.

“We are pleased that Summa Health System has chosen PatientKeeper as its partner for this significant step forward in physician automation,” Paul Brient, PatientKeeper’s president and CEO, said. “Implementing electronic charge capture will have a major impact on Summa’s revenue cycle management.”
