Madison Memorial Hospital Deploys PatientKeeper CPOE and Medication Reconciliation Software
Idaho community hospital “overlays” PatientKeeper on top of its MEDITECH Client/Server system; initiates CPOE implementation with hospitalists, internal medicine, family practice physicians
WALTHAM, Mass. – May 30, 2012 – PatientKeeper® Inc., the leading provider of physician healthcare information systems, today announced that Madison Memorial Hospital, in Rexburg, Idaho, has deployed PatientKeeper CPOE™ and PatientKeeper Medication Reconciliation™ as part of their strategy to equip physicians with user-friendly information technology to improve patient care and increase patient safety, and achieve Meaningful Use.
CPOE and Medication Reconciliation are the latest PatientKeeper physician workflow applications to go live at Madison Memorial. Physicians there have been using the PatientKeeper Physician Portal™, Mobile Clinical Results™, and eSignature™ since 2011, and began using PatientKeeper NoteWriter™ for electronic progress notes earlier this year.
Initially, Madison Memorial’s hospitalist, internal medicine and family practice physicians are using PatientKeeper CPOE. General Surgery, Pediatric, and Ob/Gyn physicians will be added as part of a phased roll-out over the next several months.
PatientKeeper is an overlay on top of Madison Memorial’s MEDITECH® Client/Server hospital information system. All patient data and order history information is directly fed from MEDITECH into PatientKeeper CPOE, and data entered by physicians flows back into MEDITECH.
“It’s exciting to be up and running with PatientKeeper CPOE,” said Dr. Clay Prince, chief of staff at Madison Memorial. “The transition from paper orders is going very smoothly for physicians. They feel it’s easy to learn, and easy to see and act on the patient order information. And our nurses and support staff are thrilled to no longer have to read our handwriting.”
PatientKeeper CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry) allows physicians to perform routine daily activities, such as ordering labs and medications, within a system that connects all of the appropriate departments at the hospital. The application is designed to support established physician workflow, which saves physicians time and spurs adoption.
PatientKeeper Medication Reconciliation makes it easy for physicians and other clinicians to electronically track and transition patient medications from home to hospital at time of admission, and back to the home at time of discharge.
PatientKeeper has been very well received at Madison Memorial. “The PatientKeeper Physician Portal has been incredibly successful with our physicians,” said Bill Whittington, IT project manager at the hospital. “I couldn’t keep the doctors away. They’re able to grab patients’ test results and other information for themselves, instead of asking nurses or administrative staff for it, which has been a real time-saver for everybody.”
“Madison Memorial is a rural community hospital with an aggressive technology program. We are proud to be a central part of it,” Paul Brient, PatientKeeper’s president and CEO, said. “They are deploying our full suite of advanced clinical applications, which should drive improvements in patient care and safety, as well allow them to meet and exceed the Meaningful Use targets for physician use of technology.”
