Climbing Up the Curve

Bringing 19 hospitals live on CPOE in the first 60 days of 2013 was a significant accomplishment for PatientKeeper’s professional services organization. Now those hospitals are accomplishing something far greater: They are changing (for the better) how their physicians order meds, tests and labs without changing how they practice medicine.

The numbers start to tell the tale – in the first full month of active use, physicians at those hospitals placed nearly 50,000 orders electronically – but it’s the anecdotes that really bring the story to life.  By all accounts, physicians are delighted with how little training has been required on PatientKeeper CPOE; many walk away in less than 15 minutes and start entering orders on their own. They are happier still that the software is so intuitive to use. One was caught on video literally shouting for joy. (Most healthcare IT vendors don’t see that every day!)

As more hospitals go live in the coming months, and additional departments at each hospital take up the software, the usage curve will continue to climb. We look forward to sharing more stories of happy physician users of CPOE (no, that’s not an oxymoron) over time.
