Southeast Alabama Medical Center Purchases PatientKeeper Mobile CPOE Software

PatientKeeper’s mobile CPOE app will enable physicians to enter orders on Apple iPhones, iPads and Android devices; PatientKeeper will complement SAMC’s existing McKesson HIS at this 420-bed community health system

Waltham, Mass. – Jan. 25, 2012 – PatientKeeper® Inc., the leading provider of physician healthcare information systems, today announced that Southeast Alabama Medical Center (SAMC) has purchased PatientKeeper Mobile CPOE™ to give physicians the ability to enter patient orders electronically on mobile devices, including Apple® iPhones®, iPads®,  and devices running the Android operating system. PatientKeeper will complement and integrate with SAMC’s existing McKesson® Horizon® hospital information system (HIS) and McKesson’s Horizon Expert Orders™ (HEO) CPOE software.

By offering physicians at SAMC a mobile CPOE solution, the hospital expects to dramatically reduce the number of verbal orders. Verbal orders can create additional administrative work for physicians and nurses, negatively impacting their workflow and satisfaction, and sometimes putting patient safety at risk.  In addition, SAMC believes deploying PatientKeeper’s mobile CPOE application will help drive physician adoption of CPOE by making it more widely and easily accessible, and will help the hospital to achieve the levels of physician adoption necessary for Stage 2 Meaningful Use.
