Digital Docs Well-Connected

If you've seen doctors tapping away at their smartphones or swiping across their iPad screens at the hospital room bedside recently, rest assured they're not playing "Angry Birds" or monitoring their Facebook feeds.
It's more likely that they're ordering an X-ray, checking on lab results, reviewing prescriptions or updating a patient record.
And if they're not already doing that, they soon will be thanks to a new mobile software system being implemented across the Huron Perth Heathcare Alliance (HPHA).
"It's allowing our physicians faster access to all the information they need on particular patients to make diagnoses," said Andrew Williams, HPHA chief executive officer. "So it's a real asset to patient care in the organization, for sure."
The new system, known as PatientKeeper, is a secure, powerful, web-based platform that allows doctors with admitting privileges at the four HPHA hospitals in Stratford, St. Marys, Seaforth and Clinton, as well as one in Goderich, to access medical records electronically on their smartphones, laptops or tablet computers.
