How do I contact Technical Support?
Use our Tech Support form to submit your questions. You will receive a response within 24 hours.

How do I purchase PatientKeeper Personal?
You can register PatientKeeper Personal at either Handango or PalmGear. Once you have paid, you will receive an email with a key to register the program, along with full instructions on how to do this.

How much does it cost to register?
The cost is $35, and can be paid by credit card at Handango or PalmGear.

What do I get with registration?
Registration allows you to continue using PatientKeeper Personal indefinitely after the 21-day trial period ends. In addition, updates to the software will be available to registered users FREE for a period of one year after registration.

What devices will PatientKeeper Personal work on?
Any device running on the Palm computing Platform, with PalmOS versions 3.0 or greater. This means PatientKeeper Personal will run on the Palm Vx, V, IIIx, IIIe, III, the Visor, the Visor deluxe, the TRGpro, the Symbol SPT1000 and SPT1500, and more.

How much memory do I need to run PatientKeeper Personal?
PatientKeeper Personal requires a minimum of 340k of memory to be installed on your handheld. The more information you keep about your patients, the more space each record will take, but a good rule of thumb is 5-10k per patient.

How long is the trial period for PatientKeeper Personal?
The trial period is 21 days. The trial version is fully functional, but does not allow access to your data after the trial period expires.

Are there group discounts or site licenses available for PatientKeeper Personal?
Yes. Contact sales@patientkeeper.com for more details.

Once I have downloaded the trial version of PatientKeeper Personal, how do I install it?
If you have never installed software onto your Palm device before, read the excellent primer on how to download and install software, available at PDAMD.com. The installation instructions below will assume you have read this primer and understand the basics of installing software onto Palm devices.

To install PatientKeeper Personal for the first time onto your Palm(tm)-compatible device:

  1. Locate the file you downloaded from the web. It is called PKpxxxx.zip (where 'xxxx' is the version of PatientKeeper Personal that you have downloaded)
  2. Decompress the file using WinZip (try it free from WinZip.com)
  3. Activate the Install Tool on your desktop
  4. If there are more than one Palm (tm) device users that use your desktop, you will be asked to choose which Palm™ device to install to. Choose your name, and click OK.
  5. Click Add. A utility to help you browse through your computer's files will appear.
  6. Find the file PKpxxxx.prc (where 'xxxx' is the version of PatientKeeper Personal that you have downloaded) that was just decompressed.
  7. Click it. Then click Open.
  8. The file you just chose will appear in the Install Tool window. Click OK.

PatientKeeper Personal is now installed on your handheld. First time users should install the pre-written popup-lists and medications database which will make it easier to customize the application so that it meets your needs.

Can I enter text on my desktop computer and transfer it into PatientKeeper Personal?
We are not currently offering a desktop conduit or application for PatientKeeper Personal.

Can I view PatientKeeper Personal information on my PC or Mac?
A qualified "yes." For now, you can export reports to the Memo Pad, perform a HotSync® operation, and then view these documents on your PC.

How can I tell which version of PatientKeeper Personal I'm using?
While viewing your main patient list in PatientKeeper Personal, tap on the menu icon on your handheld device. (The menu icon is located at the lower left, below the home icon, next to the graffiti area.) From the menu, select "Options" then "About…" Then, towards the upper-right of the screen, you will see the version number - the most recent is 2.3.3B6 for the trial version, or 2.3.3B6C for the registered version.

Is it possible to print from PatientKeeper Personal?
Yes. To print from PatientKeeper Personal, you must get PalmPrint, by Stevens Creek Software. There is a special version of PalmPrint available to PatientKeeper Personal customers for only $14.95. Once you have this software, you can print your H&P, your SOAP notes, your checkout list, lab flow sheets, individual labs, and more. Furthermore, you can choose to include as many or as few lab results as you want in each printout.

Can I print without an IR printer?
Yes, using PalmPrint, you can print to any number of devices via your cradle, or a special cord. You can even print to your computer screen!

Can I beam patient notes to other PatientKeeper Personal users?
Yes. Simply go to the "Main" screen and choose beam from the menus. You can beam as much or as little information as you want about patients. This can be particularly useful in end-of-the-day checkouts.

Can I beam patient notes to others with PalmTM handhelds who are not using PatientKeeper Personal?
Yes. There are two ways to go about this:

  1. Export your notes/data to a memo record and beam the memo record
  2. Beam PatientKeeper Personal to them, and then beam them the patients

Is beaming supposed to create duplicates?
As of the current release, any time you beam a patient to another user, it creates that patient as a NEW patient on the user's device. This means that even if the person you are beaming to has a record with a particular patient's href, if you beam that patient to her again, there will be two copies of that patient's data on her Palm device.

Why can't I put alphabetical characters where I put numbers?
This has to do with the most efficient use of memory on the handheld. There is a section for "Notes" on every screen that does this, which is intended to give you space to qualify your test results.

Can I customize PatientKeeper Personal?
Yes. There are many ways to tailor PatientKeeper Personal to your needs. First, all popup-lists, and quick-text buttons are user-configurable. The ROS can be edited to suit your own purposes as well. Further modifications can be made on a case by case basis if there is strong enough interest. Questions should be directed to Qi Li.

How do I include vitals, labs, tests, medications, problems, and plans in my printout?
To include any of these records in your printout, you must go to the record you would like to include, and highlight the printer icon at the bottom of the screen. Note that for medications, d/c's meds are never printed, and that only "Home" meds are printed with the H&P.
