COVENANT HEALTHCARE WINS 2006 AMDIS AWARD
PatientKeeper Client Recognized for
Implementation of a Physician Information System
Boston, MA and Saginaw, MI – July 19, 2006 –
PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading developer of physician
information systems, announced today their client Covenant
HealthCare in Michigan was named one of the winners of the 2006
AMDIS Awards for excellence and achievement in applied medical
informatics. This is the second year in a row a PatientKeeper
client was recognized for improving access to clinical
information, enhancing patient safety, and streamlining physician
workflow.
The annual award program is organized by the Association of
Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS), a non-profit
organization comprised of over 1,200 physician leaders
responsible for information technology in their organizations.
The Covenant HealthCare team was honored at the 16th Annual
Physician-Computer Connection Symposium held in San Diego,
California.
“Winning the 2006 AMDIS Award acknowledges
Covenant’s continuous effort to provide quality service to
our patients,” said Dr. John Kosanovich, M.D.,
Covenant’s vice president of medical affairs. “With
PatientKeeper, patient information is always available – at
bedside, at the office, at home, and anywhere in between. This
saves time for both doctors and nurses, which means they can
spend more time with patients to provide the best care and
service.”
As the sixth largest hospital in Michigan, Covenant HealthCare
provides comprehensive medical services to people in more than 14
counties throughout East Central Michigan. To help manage this
expansive environment, Covenant HealthCare aimed to bring
increased efficiency to the clinical staff. Covenant formed a
team to study technology solutions. That team decided to deploy
PatientKeeper Physician Portal™, PatientKeeper Mobile
Clinical Results™, and PatientKeeper Provider
Directory™. The software streamlined the workflow of the
physicians and office staff as well as enhanced the quality of
resident education. Covenant physicians now easily access patient
lists and information including lab results, test results,
medication lists, clinical notes, drug references, and an
up-to-date directory of the organization’s physicians.
“Covenant wanted to give physicians a wealth of clinical
information that could be accessed anywhere and anytime through
mobile devices or the Web,” said Keith Grantham, director
of information technology for Covenant. “Our physicians
rapidly embraced PatientKeeper. Today, we have nearly a thousand
clinicians and staff accessing information from PDAs,
Smartphones, and Web browsers.”
“Information technology plays an increasingly important
role in the way clinicians manage patient care,” said Paul
W. Brient, chief executive officer of PatientKeeper.
“PatientKeeper is proud that AMDIS has recognized the
Covenant HealthCare Team for their success in applying a
physician information system that has generated real benefits in
patient care and physician satisfaction.”
PatientKeeper is integral part of the strategies of
organizations across the healthcare continuum – ranging
from small physician practices to community hospitals to major
academic medical centers to some of the largest health systems in
the country. PatientKeeper’s customer base now includes
over 100 organizations, representing over 300 hospitals.
