Sage Software and PatientKeeper Join Forces for Health Information Exchange
Physicians Will Have Anytime, Anywhere Access to a Longitudinal View of Combined Inpatient and Outpatient Information from Sage Intergy EHR and Hospital System
BOSTON, Mass., August 18, 2009 – PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading developer of physician information systems, and Sage, a leading provider of physician solutions including practice management and electronic health records, jointly announced that Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids will be expanding its PatientKeeper platform. With the new capability for health information exchange (HIE) between Mercy Medical Center’s PatientKeeper Physician Information System and Sage Intergy EHR ambulatory electronic health records system, physicians will have access to integrated inpatient and outpatient records, across care settings, to optimize patient care and improve operational efficiency.
Mercy Medical Center CEO, Tim Charles, said, “We are thrilled to be on the forefront of meeting the evolving government and quality standards. Our physicians will be using our existing, well adopted PatientKeeper Portal™ to provide the best care possible for the patients in our community, and I am particularly excited to implement a cost effective health information exchange solution. Leveraging existing technology and improving physicians’ access to key patient information helps us contribute to keeping overall healthcare costs down.”
Mercy will implement PatientKeeper’s Physician Practice Connector™, giving providers access to inpatient information, and outpatient information – through Sage Intergy EHR – anywhere, anytime, through one system. Providers will use the HIE functionality to access an aggregated longitudinal view of current and historical patient information.
“We have worked with PatientKeeper for four years and have experienced great success with our physicians using the PatientKeeper Portal for a single, integrated view of inpatient data,” said Jeff Cash, CIO of Mercy Medical Center. “We are thrilled to be taking this next step with PatientKeeper by extending this capability to the outpatient setting. We look forward to eventually opening up these capabilities to our affiliated physician practices and even neighboring hospitals throughout the community.”
“As a physician, my primary goal is to treat every patient with the most up to date information available, to make the most informed decisions about the patient’s care,” said Dr. Timothy Quinn, President, MercyCare Community Physicians. “This integration allows me and my partners to have the most up to date information available.”
Further, Dr. Matthew Aucutt, Medical Director of Mercy’s Emergency Department adds, “This provides our Emergency Department better access to current primary care information, which allows us to treat patients more effectively and efficiently."
“We are excited to play a role in Mercy’s vision for health information exchange with its community,” said Paul Brient, PatientKeeper president and CEO. “Mercy is showing how communities can quickly and efficiently create a community-centric HIE and allow physicians in the community to have all of the relevant clinical data on all their patients – regardless of care setting.”
“As physicians across the nation work to achieve ‘meaningful use’ in anticipation of stimulus funds, as well as in support of patient safety concerns and in reducing health care costs by creating efficient sharing of information across health care settings, the secure exchange of health information through the Mercy Medical Center HIE is fundamental,” said Maureen Peszko, Senior Vice President, Healthcare Business and Product Solutions for Sage. “We’re proud that physicians in the Mercy community have embraced Sage Intergy EHR. We’re additionally enthusiastic about supporting the Cedar Rapids HIE effort with Mercy Medical Center and PatientKeeper as our partners.”
Mercy CIO Jeff Cash will be speaking about Cedar Rapids’ experience with community HIE at the 5th Annual Summit on Health Information Technology in Iowa on August 20 at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel, West Des Moines. Both PatientKeeper and Sage representatives will be on site to answer questions.
