Patientkeeper Integration Platform Selected By “Healthy Ocala” Rhio For Interoperability And Physician Portal

Self-Sustaining Greater OCALA Health Information Trust to Connect the Community, Improve Information Access for Physicians and Provide Personal Health Records for Patients

BOSTON, Mass.–May 8, 2008– PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading provider of integrated physician information systems, has been selected by Greater Ocala Health Information Trust, Inc. (dba Healthy Ocala and Greater Marion County) to provide the integration foundation and physician portal for this Regional Health Information Organization’s (RHIO) Health Information Exchange.

The PatientKeeper platform will provide the infrastructure necessary for integrating healthcare information from disparate systems across the greater Ocala, Florida region, and give physicians anywhere-anytime access to patient information. PatientKeeper will also integrate this information to the WorldDoc 24/7 Personal Health Management System, a consumer portal that provides a personal health record (PHR). With PatientKeeper as the foundation, “Healthy Ocala” will ultimately seek to provide the Marion County community with an Integrated Community Health Information System. This system will serve the needs of patients, physicians and other health care providers and facilities, as well as the community at large, including employers, in order to improve health care delivery and outcomes and the overall health of the residents.

The Healthy Ocala RHIO is remarkable as one of few RHIOs in the United States with a sustainable funding model. By using the PatientKeeper integration engine to leverage information from existing systems, Healthy Ocala will eliminate the need for a major upfront technology investment and will sustain itself as employers, payors and other participants pay for their PHRs. This will truly be a community initiative as hospitals and other facilities such as long-term care and hospice organizations, labs and pharmacies across the region share data to create comprehensive personal health records for the region’s residents.

PatientKeeper was selected for the extensibility of its integration platform and its ability to readily connect information from disparate healthcare information systems as well as for the company’s physician workflow expertise. More than just an integration engine, PatientKeeper improves quality of care at hospitals in the Ocala region by giving physicians unified access to patient data and workflow tools they can work with from anywhere — using a Smartphone, mobile device, or web browser. The physician-friendly user interface provides secure access to lab and test results, medication histories, allergies, vital signs, inputs/outputs, schedules and other important clinical information across the enterprise for more informed decision-making and highly responsive care.

“When choosing a technology platform, we wanted it to be easily integrated and designed for the way physicians work. Finding a hosted solution with technology offered on an ASP basis was also a critical component,” said Mel Seek, MD, Chair of Healthy Ocala. “We went with PatientKeeper because its system met these requirements, and, even better, offered a user experience that would save physicians time, improve the quality of care and enhance patient safety.”

The Healthy Ocala RHIO will benefit patients by providing them with PHRs that they can then share with family members and out-of-state providers efficiently and securely. Providers will benefit from improved access to data enhancing patient care and saving time. Payors and employers will enjoy lower costs, as well as improved physician and member relations.

“The Ocala story is an innovative model for other organizations looking to give their physicians access to comprehensive data anywhere, anytime — and to make personal health records accessible and secure across the entire community,” said  Paul W. Brient, PatientKeeper president and CEO. “This clearly demonstrates that communities can attain this ideal in a manner that is financially viable on an ongoing basis — that’s the holy grail for RHIOs—we are excited that we are part of this.”
