PatientKeeper Enjoys Explosive Growth in 2007

Boston, Mass. – February 6, 2008 – PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading provider of integrated physician information systems, announced the completion of a transformative year in 2007 that saw a dramatic increase in its customer base and significant growth from existing clients. Fueled by industry demand for a single point of access to clinical information, community health information exchange (HIE), and revenue cycle management tools, the Company experienced growth across all market segments—academic medical centers, community hospitals, physician practices, and major health systems.

Key Milestones for PatientKeeper in 2007 include:

  • Expanding its customer base to include over 10% of the nation's hospitals with more than 200 new hospitals opting to purchase PatientKeeper's Portal in 2007
  • Securing agreements with five major health systems, including previously announced Catholic Health Initiatives and Iowa Health System
  • Adding six new applications to the Physician Information System
  • Selling one or more of these new products to over 20% of currently-installed customers
  • Increasing the number of physicians using PatientKeeper applications to over 14,000

In 2007 many health systems and hospitals were seeking ways to extend their existing healthcare information technology (HCIT) investments to their physicians and to find ways to exchange health information across the community. PatientKeeper helped a record number of customers achieve these objectives and has added even more interfaces and integration options to the PatientKeeper Platform. PatientKeeper has now interfaced/integrated to over 75 different HCIT systems.

Like many PatientKeeper customers, Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is leveraging the PatientKeeper Physician Information System as the single point of access for all clinical information for their physicians. In 2007, Mercy continued to expand both the number of clinical systems to which PatientKeeper is integrated, including MEDITECH, EKG, Patient Monitoring, PACS, and home health systems, and also added several new PatientKeeper applications.

"Physicians know what they want a system to provide. At a minimum it has to be easy to use, time saving and able to improve patient care," said Jeff Cash, CIO and vice president at Mercy Medical Center. "With PatientKeeper, they have found the technology to meet those needs and much more."

The PatientKeeper Physician Portal and Mobile Clinical Results companion product, was a major source of growth in 2007. Together these products improve patient care and save physicians time by allowing physicians to access a unified view of patient information anywhere, any time on any device.

"After a long evaluation process and extensive due diligence with a number of vendors, we selected PatientKeeper for our physician portal standard. Its unique integration capabilities and broad suite of clinical applications best complement our existing MEDITECH and Cerner HIS," said Rick Turner, MD, chief medical information officer of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI). "PatientKeeper provides physicians and other clinicians with valuable information management solutions while allowing CHI hospitals the opportunity to optimize the accessibility, usability and availability of their existing clinical systems."

PatientKeeper bolstered its market leadership position in 2007 by adding six new applications to the Physician Information System. These include four clinical applications:

  • PatientKeeper eSignature™ — enables bi-directional functionality with health information systems (HIS) allowing physicians to sign clinical notes and orders anywhere from any device.
  • PatientKeeper Forms™ —speeds form completion and accuracy by automatically populating forms with relevant patient information and routing them to the appropriate destination.
  • PatientKeeper Sign-Out™ — automates the transfer of clinical information and tasks at physician shift changes
  • PatientKeeper ePrescription™ – allows clinicians to write and send a complete prescription with all necessary patient information in just seconds—directly from the PatientKeeper system to the pharmacy.

And two revenue cycle applications:

  • PatientKeeper P4P™, which satisfies Pay for Performance reporting requirements by helping physicians to gather and submit quality and compliance data along with their charge capture information.
  • PatientKeeper Analytics™, which extends the business value of PatientKeeper’s industry-leading charge capture suite with powerful “out of the box” reporting and dashboards.

"Our vision has always been to improve the physician experience with technology by developing integration technology and software that truly automates the day in the life of the physician across all locations and settings of care," said Paul Brient, PatientKeeper president and CEO. "More than anything, our exceptional growth in 2007 is attributable to PatientKeeper's ability to deliver software that physicians use to save time, improve patient care, and improve financial performance."
